TMP was quite the adventure to say the least. The weekend (October 15/16th) started off a little crazy
with some stranded Betty's when one of our drivers over slept, which forced some of the rookies to get extra cozy in the back seat. Luckily its a quick drive over to the Little Apple!
We got to the fields around 7:30 where we split up into two teams Betty Y and Betty X. It was of course windy but that was nothing new for Betty. Betty Y played Cheshire alumni/KC woman for their first game and it was great to see them helping the rookies learn even as they were guarding them. Betty X won their second game with Betty Y cheering on the sideline during their bye. While both teams might not have seen the results they were looking for, their were tremendous improvements up and down the roster. The 4th and 5th years didn't play this weekend and instead took on coaching roles. This gave the 3rd and 2nd years the opportunity to step up on the field. TMP has always been a great tournament for rookies. It was incredible to see them playing at the end of the first day compared to where they began. Some of the rookies went to Exit 69 but for most this was their very first tournament. I think a lot of people can agree that there's nothing better than the face of a rookie after they've scored.
After games, all 40 of us went to eat at Olive Garden. They had to call more servers into work because of us... oops. When the bread sticks where brought out it was like a feeding frenzy of sharks.
After dinner we hit up the good ol' Super 8 to get ready to PARTY! However, thanks to the Z boys the $900 tab was gone in 45 minutes. But not even that can stop us from having a good time. The Betty's were quite popular on the dance floor, and we might have even seen a couple rookies making out ;p. Obviously there were multiple trips to Varsity Donuts because, when in Rome. The boys attempted to get us kicked out of our hotel when the party was cut short but Momma Syd would have none of that and came in to lay down the law.
Day 2 numbers started to dwindle as people were feeling the effects of the heat, along with playing all day Saturday and a few hard tumbles. Because of how the bracket worked out Betty played each other for the second game and used this opportunity to get a friendly scrimmage in. Instead of playing WuWu for the 90 millionth time that weekend, Betty Y and Betty X combined to play Cheshire for the final game.
This was also our first tournament as Funbassadors for FiveUltimate. It was fun to share with other teams what the program is all about. There were some pretty intense games of pokey played, and it was awesome to see players get excited to dig through our sweet box of swag for their spirit awards.
If you haven't noticed there are lots of pictures on Facebook from this tournament and still more to come. You could say people got a little carried away with the camera considering there were 1400 pictures taken, half of which, were Malaina trying to get a new profile pic.
