This weekend we had six new cheers debuted (if you missed them they’re on Twitter so check it out) in a contest sponsored by Loren. There were some awesome submissions with a majority fave being Kat King’s due to her lyrical genius. Last year at Fools Fest a Betty Alum taught us the Green Beans cheer (which has been a big hit), and it’s crazy to think that in Fools Fests to come we’ll be teaching future Bettys our cheers. Ugh! #cantwait #foolsfest50 #canyoubenostalgicaboutthefuture?? #causeiam
Green beans, lima beans, peas and corn
We’re the girls from Kansas and we like scorin’.
Every night when I’m asleep, I talk to Betty in my dreams.
She says the key to winning games is to chant the meaning of her name.
Hot chick, bad bitch, quickest on the defense.
Smart girl, tough babe, Betty bred and Kansas made
And supposedly it only took her 30 minutes to write!! So good. But seriously check them all out on Twitter if you haven’t.
Update on Funbassador shenanigans: So far so good. It’s really fun to see the face of the person(s) we pick out for great spirit when they realize they get to pick out a swaggy item from Five. Talking at the end of games, especially ones that have gotten somewhat chippy, about trying to promote Spirit of the Game is a little reminder not only to the other teams but also to ourselves about what separates Ultimate from other sport communities.
The OG plan was to take two teams to Ames but due to lower numbers than originally anticipated, we decided to combine into one team, and it became our first full-team tourney!! We started Saturday off strong beating Iowa State, and then moved on to their alumni and lost 6-13 in hard-fought match. We finished the day with a close loss to Tsunami, and a big desire to pick it up for Sunday!
Sunday was a new day, and we started with a first-round bye. Our first game was against the good ol’ Nebraska Cuddleraptors. Unfortunately, Nadine “Dizzle” Rowen decided to head home on Saturday evening, so we missed her face! We advanced to a rematch against Tsunami in semis. The rookies had a great point during this game. Grace Roepke had a D, first-time tourney attender Rookie Kelsey had a sick hand-mack, and to finish it off Mikayla caught the score!! So proud! Final score 11-5. This moved us on to finals with a déjà vu moment: playing Women Scorned Alumni in finals
for the second year in a row. The game started off tight but, like fine wine, ultimate players get better with age, so the alumni bested us with a final score of 12-6. Nonetheless, Ames to Please proved to be a hard-fought, productive, and suuuper fun weekend for the Bettys!
